I was reading Anthony's blog today, and noticed that ALL of the people who comment on his blog seem to think that the USA is a democracy. This idea is patently wrong, and very frightening to those who have studied history. The USA is a democratic republic. Our founders knew that democracies ALWAYS lead to a tyranny sooner or later. They specifically made our government a democratic republic with very separated power, because of this.
Our founders knew that in a democracy, the citizens eventually realize that they can vote themselves infinite benefits out of the public treasury. This bankrupts the treasury, which leads to outside forces invading the country, which leads to the people losing their rights to a tyrant.
The recent rise in the number of citizens of the United States of America thinking that their government is a democracy is frightening. It has begun the process of bankrupting the treasury. The public debt is currently at roundabouts 9 trillion dollars. almost all of this debt has come as a result of socialist programs such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. These programs have become such an integral part of the United States economy that removing them outright is no longer a truly viable option.
Now that this process has begun, freedom-loving citizens must find a way to remove these programs, and reverse the process. If the United States is to remain a free land, it's citizens must act now.
Remember, The USA is not a democracy. Democracies always lead to tyranny. The USA is a democratic republic. If people will remember this, and will act in accordance to protect their rights, we have a long and bright future ahead of us. Otherwise, the future is not so bright. I call on anyone who reads this to do what they can to vote informed, to urge their senators and representatives not to expand socialist policy, and not to give up their rights.

Democratic Republic anyone? Also, Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security are fundamentally good programs although they are abused. As far as taking away our rights, can you say Patriot Act?
It is a democratic republic. however, people in this country seem to think it is a straight up democracy. so far as "fundamentally good programs" goes, they have good intentions on the surface, but because they are run by our government, they are incredibly inefficient, and therefore a drain on the economy. I mean, you'd do better to put your money under your mattress than invest it in social security. non-governmental entities would do a much better job of it. The PATRIOT act is a fine example of government abuse. but... it's only a piece of the puzzle. but it does hark back to the beginning of this country's history. read up on the alien and sedition acts.
and... just for you, I edited my post.
Oh come on, people do know how our government works basically even if they don't know the technically correct names. You'll notice even our leaders constantly talk about "democratically elected leaders" or "democratic countries." I think pretty much every American understands that we don't vote on every issue, there are checks and balances, and we do have a president.
They may understand that we don't live in a democracy, per say, but the more they call it a democracy, the more the citizens will act like they live in one.
You really think that pretty much every citizen understands that difference? I don't. I think that a large proportion of citizens of the US of A do not understand what a democracy is, let alone understand that we do not live under one.
Out of curiosity, do you support anyone for president, and if so, who, and why?
